Remind yourself how powerful being playful can be

Cast your mind back, for a moment, to when you were a child and it was so easy and fun to make everything you did into a game...

It was all about who could run the fastest, whether you could avoid stepping on the cracks in the sidewalk, or who would be the slowest to say something (NOT IT!!!)...

Make your goals fun again!

Kids instinctively know how to keep things more fun.

As an adult, do you ever remind yourself how powerful being playful and fun can be?

I'm here to say, this can be especially helpful when it comes to building new healthy habits, and especially in the long run of maintaining them.

So I ask you...

How much more would you enjoy cooking at home or meal prep, or doing your strength workouts, or drinking enough water...if you gamified them?

There are a few ways to do this, from awarding yourself points, to a reward system, or even funny “consequences” — like doing another family member's household chore or not allowing yourself to watch your favorite show if you skip meal prep?

The point is…

What if you made it FUN?

Research supports you! In fact, one study found that gamifying goals helped participants increase their levels of physical activity — even 8 weeks after the study was finished.

So if you’re trying to get more active minutes in a day, eat more veggies, better manage stress levels, think about one way you can make it more of a game this week.

In fact, in my Goal Getters 2025 group, we're doing something as simple as sharing our habit tracking on a free app called "HabitShare" so we can see each other fill in our little circles (and maybe compete a little while we support one another!).

So don't complicate it — just choose something that brings a little joy to your day!

I’d love to hear what you come up with, so drop me an email or tag me on Facebook!

P.S. If you want help figuring out other ways to make the habit setting/tracking process more enjoyable, grab a spot on my calendar here!

Check out some great deals from brands I love in this footer each week! These are also paid affiliate links and I earn from qualifying purchases, but they will only be items or services I actually believe in. I hope you'll consider (and enjoy!) the suggestions!

One more week to mention my own Habit Tracking Journal for sale on Amazon (and digitally on Etsy) because it also has little circles you can fill in, plus reflection and planning pages for forming better habits...and pretty pages are another way to make habits FUN! :)
