Your gut and your immune system are besties

This is for all those days when you're feeling tired, foggy, or bloated — even when you're trying to take care of yourself. Or the ones when you're sure you're eating better, moving more, and doing most of what is considered the “right” things … but you're still just not feeling like your best self.

Here’s something even a lot of wellness-minded people might not realize:
Your gut and your immune system are besties and in constant communication.
This might surprise you, but roughly 70% of your immune system lives inside your gut!
Your gut isn’t just hanging out and digesting food… it’s also aiding your body to manage stress, regulate your energy levels through the day (and night), and defend your system against illness.
But there IS a catch:
When you’re stressed out (even the normal just-getting-through-the-day, full-kid-schedule, deadlines-at-work kind of stress)...
Your body releases hormones that can weaken the lining of your gut over time, which can make your gut barrier a little more “leaky” than it should be.
This can mean small amounts of undigested food, toxins, or bacteria that are supposed to stay in your gut might sneak into your bloodstream and cause issues elsewhere. This is when your immune system activates the alarm.
➡️ Which in turn triggers inflammation.
➡️ Which can leave you feeling even more bloated, tired, or anxious than before.
➡️ And you see this coming, right: that can loop right back into adding more stress.
This is called the "gut-inflammation loop."
And unfortunately, it happens this way a lot more than you might think.
But there’s is good news:
You CAN interrupt the cycle.
Here are a few simple ways to support your gut and, in turn, calm that inflammation:
● Slow down BEFORE you eat your meals — reduce activity levels, meditate or at least take a few deep breaths to help your body shift into rest + digest mode
● Add gut-friendly foods to your diet like fermented veggies, Greek yogurt, or chia seeds
● Drink more water throughout the entire day —hydration helps fortify the lining of your gut
As always, my advice also includes NOT overhauling your entire life overnight.
Instead, focus on small, gradual changes that help you feel better.
What’s good for your gut is good for your mood, metabolism, and mental clarity, too.
P.S. If you’re a stressed-out woman (especially moms) who’s constantly second-guessing what to eat and still not seeing results.. the next round of Mom's Little Black Dress Project starts Sept 8 and there's still time to join! It helps you simplify your food, reduce inflammation, and finally feel in control of your body again — without the guesswork or added stress.
