Summer often brings extra yummy treats and splurges.
Between the cookouts, vacation restaurant bombardment, many frozen coffee drinks, late-night snacks with the kids, and poolside treats…you train your body to enjoy more treats but then it creates a cycle, and those summer treat cravings are entrenched.
If you've been paying attention to this blog for a while, you know that I’m all in for enjoying every season of life! But if you’re like most of my clients, you also want to feel good and enjoy your life.
Here’s the good news you've been hoping for while reading those first few lines: I don't believe you have to give up your favorite summer treats altogether, just try these swap ideas to help maintain your balance!

You just need a few smart swaps that taste great without the crash, bloat, brain fog...or regrets! So the next time you're feeling one of those cravings, or the temptation around other people and lots of goodies is just too great, try some of these:
Instead of ice cream at night: Blend up a treat using a frozen banana and a favorite protein powder, a splash of almond milk, and a spoonful of peanut butter.
Instead of sugary cocktails: There are some truly passable flavored sparkling waters on the market! Add some lime and a splash of another 100% juice product or coconut water. Is it a fancy occasion? Then throw in a sprig of mint or fresh fruit. Tiny umbrellas also optional.
Instead of greasy takeout: Lettuce wraps can be subbed for just about any bread (or taco!). Serve your burger on a bed of lettuce or assemble your tacos with seasoned ground turkey, avocado, and a some fresh pico de gallo.
Instead of “fruit snacks”: Chill some watermelon cubes and when ready to eat, add a squeeze of lime juice and a sprinkle of sea salt.
Instead of soda / sweet tea: Brew up some mint or hibiscus tea, cool and serve over ice with lemon… it’s naturally a little sweet, caffeine-free, and good for gut health.
Instead of s’mores: I know, this one might be the hardest to pass up, so if you indulge, make it low volume and infrequet. ;) But if you're ready to stick with a yummy sub, have a square of dark chocolate + almond butter + a couple bites of raspberries or strawberries.
If you have followed me for a while you also know I like to keep things pretty simple. These swap ideas are just that AND they still taste amazing.
And they can really work for you, even when summer schedules is all over the place and nothing like the rest of the year.
Want more ideas for keeping your habits (and your sanity) amidst changes in schedules, full family calendars, "off" days… and generally just a plan that actually fits your lifestyle?
