Reset that disregulated nervous system in a hurry

Maybe you've been hearing more about “nervous system regulation” lately?

It’s a poular topic right now, but it can also be… a bit confusing.

At first, many people might think it requires things like:

A 90-minute yoga flow session

An extended period of meditation

Or a strict morning routine that must start at 4:45am

woman taking a deep breath with face to the sky and eyes closed

That's not true. so I'm here to make it much easier.

Let's boil it down to a science-based reset that takes just 30 seconds, doesn't require a dark room and new age music, and actually helps you shift out of stress mode and into a more relaxed state...quickly:

It’s called a Physiological Sigh.

Your body already knows how to do this. You might even do it without knowing the exact benefits on paper— but science says it works better than a lot of more involved techniques.

This is how you can do it:

  1. Take a long, deep breath in through your nose.

  2. At the top of the breath, take a quick second inhale. Just a little more air, whatever you can fit in your lungs.

  3. Then slowly exhale comepletly, this time through your mouth.

That’s it. Super simple, right?

It's recommended that you do it 2–3 times in natural succession.

So what does this method actually net you?

It activates your parasympathetic nervous system (and sets your “calm” state into motion.)

It helps to offload carbon dioxide from deep inside your lungs.

It immediately sends a signal of safety to your brain.

Stanford researchers (Huberman) found that this technique can outperform meditation and other breathing techniques when you're facng a need for lowering stress quickly.

It costs nothing, it's so simple to master, and it's a better use of your time than scrolling social media! And it's useful in unlimited situations, including:

●     When your heart rate spikes (especially if it feels like it was for no reason at all!)

●     When you're feeling on edgy or can't focus and aren't sure why

●     After a workout to bring your heartrate back to normal

●     Or even before you eat, to aid digestion and blood sugar regulation

If you've been around a while, you know I'm a huge fan of keeping things simple…

And this is a such an ideal example of that!

Try it today — or keep it in your aresenal for when you really find a need.

Just a few seconds in the middle of any situation can calm everything and reset that disregulated nervous system in a hurry.
